KYBELLA® is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.” It is not known if KYBELLA® is safe and effective for use outside of the submental area.
How does KYBELLA® work?
The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.
Am I a candidate for KYBELLA®?
Men and women in good health are excellent candidates for KYBELLA®. If you get fever blisters, you will need to take Valtrex as a prophylactic for three days prior to treatment.
What are the risks involved with a KYBELLA® injection?
KYBELLA® is biocompatible with the human body, so it is an extremely safe product. The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness around the treatment area.
Does the treatment hurt?
Jenna Enoch, PA-C uses an injectable lidocaine and a preventative ice pack to numb the treatment area prior to injection. Patients typically feel little to no pain during treatment.
How long will KYBELLA® last?
The results of KYBELLA® may take more than one treatment session however your results are permanent. Once injected, the fat cells under your chin are destroyed. After aesthetic results are achieved, further treatment is not recommended.
