What is Restylane®?
Restylane® is an injectable dermal filler that is used to smooth and add volume to correct moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles in the nasolabial area (the area around the nose and mouth).
How does Restylane® work?
Restylane® is a stabilized form of hyaluronic acid that is formulated to act just like your body’s own hyaluronic acid. It adds fullness to the nasolabial folds helping to rejuvenate your face and give you a younger, fresh look.
Am I a candidate for Restylane®?
Men and women in good health are excellent candidates for Restylane®. If you get fever blisters, you will need to take Valtrex as a prophylactic for three days prior to treatment.
What are the risks involved with a Restylane® injection?
Restylane® is biocompatible with the human body, so it is an extremely safe product. It is one of the most studied wrinkle fillers and has had more than a decade of use. Following treatment you may experience some swelling, redness, or bruising which normally lasts less than seven days.
Does the treatment hurt?
Dr. McClellan uses an injectable lidocaine and has you apply an ice pack to numb the treatment area prior to injection. Patients typically feel no pain or discomfort during the injection.
How long will Restylane last?
The results of Restylane® will be immediately visible and the results will last around 6 to 9 months.
Is there any downtime or recovery time associated with Restylane?
Typically patients return to normal activities following injection. You will be asked to refrain from smiling for a short period of time so that the gel will settle in the correct location. Although some patients do experience bruising following injection, most return to work the same day.
