What is the Radiant Microdermabrasion?

The Radiant Microdermabrasion is a procedure that combines two skin procedures into one:  the Microdermabrasion and the Obagi Radiance Blue Peel. This treatment is exclusive to Morgantown Plastic Surgery.

How does the Radiant Microdermabrasion work?

The treatment starts with the microdermabrasion and the administration of microcrystals to the epidermis. The patient will only receive one pass of the microdermabrasion.

The action of administering the pass of microdermabrasion, before applying the peel, removes the top layer of that skin and allows the peel the opportunity to penetrate more deeply into the skin.

After the microdermabrasion, the Obagi Radiance Blue Peel is immediately applied. This peel is a superficial chemical peel. It is administered in layers. Typically if a patient is receiving only the Radiance Blue peel on its own, two layers are used. However, for the Radiant Microdermabrasion only one layer is applied.  A patient is expected to peel/flake mildly for up to 5-10 days following each treatment.

Are there any side effects to the Radiant Microdermabrasion?

Some patients may experience a mild redness, in the face, after receiving the treatment. There may also be an increased sensitivity to sunlight and therefore it is important for patients to avoid direct sunlight and wear an SPF of 30 or above after getting the Radiant Microdermabrasion done.

How long does this treatment take and how many treatments should I receive?

The Radiant Microdermabrasion is about a 30 minute procedure.  In order for a patient to receive optimal results, a patient should receive 4 treatments spaced 2-3 weeks apart.
