Microdermabrasion

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a non-chemical procedure that exfoliates your skin to help minimize the appearance of scarring, fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration and sun damage. It stimulates the production of collagen and new, living skin cells that improve elasticity, texture, and plump the skin. It will leave your skin looking fresh, healthy, and rejuvenated.

How does microdermabrasion work?

Microdermabrasion works by spraying microcrystals on your face and neck to remove the outermost layers of dry, dead skin cells.

Are there different types of microdermabrasions?

Yes, there are different types of microdermabrasion. Here at Morgantown Plastic Surgery, we offer the Mega Peel microdermabrasion, which is one of the most popular and effective microdermabrasion treatments available. The Mega Peel microdermabrasion offers more advanced technology than most other microdermabrasions currently on the market. Mega Peel has the option of incorporating vacuum pressure into the procedure so that deeper layers of skin may also be treated. With this specific technology, we are able to customize microdermabrasion treatments for each individual’s unique needs.

Am I a candidate for a microdermabrasion?

Adults in good health are candidates for a microdermabrasion. This treatment is especially good for individuals with sensitive skin that cannot handle the harshness of chemical peels. Since this procedure is minimally invasive, it is important to keep in mind realistic expectations. Microdermabrasion will help to reduce or minimize the appearance of uneven skin tones, sun damage, fine lines and scarring, as well as help give your face a rejuvenated look. This is not a surgical procedure; therefore, it will not completely remove deep wrinkles and scars.

Note : Microdermabrasion is not an option for you if you have rosacea. However, please contact our office to schedule a consultation with Tonya or Krystal to find out other options that may be available to you.

How long does the treatment take?

A treatment generally takes around 30 minutes.

What risks are involved in a microdermabrasion treatment?

Because this treatment is so minimally invasive, there are virtually no risks. Following microdermabrasion your skin may be more sensitive to light or to touch and your face may be a little red. It is important to wear a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher after this treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Each patient is different and therefore it is difficult to generalize an exact amount of necessary treatments. Typically, you will need 3 to 5 treatments spaced 2 to 3 weeks apart to achieve optimal results. The amount of treatments needed depends on the amount of severity of your problem areas. To find out exactly how many treatments you will need, come in for a FREE skin care consultation with Tonya or Ariana. You can contact our office to set up an appointment.
