Botox® Cosmetic

What is Botox® Cosmetic?

Botox® Cosmetic is a non-surgical treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe wrinkles and fine lines between your eyebrows.

How does Botox® Cosmetic work?

Botox® Cosmetic is a purified form of a toxin known as botulinum toxin type A that is injected directly into the muscles and blocks the chemical signals that cause them to contract.

Why do people get Botox® Cosmetic?

Aging, hormone changes, and sun damage are only a few of the more common factors that affect the appearance of your forehead and between your brows. Additionally, these areas are typically the most active muscles on your face. Squinting, concentrating, and frowning cause these muscles to contract which causes deep wrinkles to form. These overacted muscles can often cause you to have an angry or tired expression.

Am I a candidate for Botox® Cosmetic?

Men and women between the ages of 18 to 65 are excellent candidates for a Botox® injection.

Is Botox® Cosmetic safe?

Botox® Cosmetic was introduced in 2002 and is the first botulinum toxin to be approved by the FDA. However, as with any product injected into your body, there are potential risks. In some cases, patients experience a small amount of bruising at the injection site. There are more serious side effects and you should immediately seek medical attention if you experience one or more of the following problems:

  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Problems with speaking or breathing
  • Spread of toxin effects – this is apparent by loss of strength and muscle weakness all over the body, double vision, blurred vision, trouble saying words clearly, and loss of bladder control

How long will it take for Botox® Cosmetic to work and how long will it last?

Every patient is different and therefore it is difficult to give an exact amount of time necessary for Botox® Cosmetic to set-in and a timeline for how long its results will last. Typically, results are seen in 5 to 10 days and may last 3 to 6 months.

Is Botox® Cosmetic Painful?

Pain associated with Botox® Cosmetic is minimal. Prior to injection, Rachel will numb the area by applying a cold compress to the treatment region.

Will I still be able to make facial expressions?

Yes, you will be able to see a visible reduction in wrinkles and fine lines, but you will still be able to show sadness, happiness, or surprised expressions. The muscle activity that causes the unwanted lines to form will be suppressed.
